The Process

STEP

1

Initial Contact and Health Information Review • Action: A potential client begins their journey with Sacred Rebels Recovery by making an initial call to express interest in the program. • Process: During this call, the intake team collects preliminary health information, including any history of substance use, mental health concerns, and any prior experiences with addiction treatment. The use of SSRIs or any psychiatric medications is specifically discussed due to the necessary cessation before participating in ayahuasca ceremonies.
STEP

2

Setting Intentions and Commitment • Action: Following the initial health screening, the client engages in a session focused on intention setting and commitment. • Process: This includes a private, in-person meeting with Maestro Ricardo and the intake team to discuss the client’s goals for recovery, understanding of holistic treatment, and readiness to commit to the program. This step ensures that the client’s expectations align with the holistic and traditional Shipibo approaches to recovery.
STEP

3

Personalized Approach and Treatment Options • Action: The client is introduced to the holistic recovery model and the various treatment options available at Sacred Rebels Recovery. • Process: This involves a 7-day introduction to the new living environment and an overview of the holistic programs offered, including physical, emotional, spiritual healing, and dual-diagnosis support. Treatment options such as yoga, fitness, experiential activities, psychotherapy, meditation, and traditional Shipibo ceremonies are explained.
STEP

4

Inpatient Care and Addiction Recovery • Action: The client begins their chosen recovery program, participating in a range of therapies and ceremonies designed to treat addiction holistically. • Process: Inpatient care includes participation in physical activities, emotional wellness sessions, spiritual healing practices, and any necessary ceremonies with Maestro Ricardo. During this time, clients receive continuous support from staff, engage in daily group and one-on-one meetings, and partake in ceremonial preparations like aromatic flower baths and traditional massages.
STEP

5

Aftercare Integration and Support • Action: Towards the completion of the inpatient program, focus shifts to aftercare planning and integration into the community. • Process: Sacred Rebels Recovery assists clients in developing a long-term recovery plan that includes structured schedules of supportive activities, ongoing healing work, and access to community support. An open line of communication is maintained with participants after they leave, offering ongoing support from psychotherapists with ayahuasca experience and connecting them with local practitioners.

Holistic Recovery Program

Holistic recovery at Sacred Rebels Recovery embraces a comprehensive approach to treating addiction, emphasizing the whole person rather than just addressing the symptoms. This treatment incorporates traditional substance abuse therapies alongside a variety of experiential methods, grounded in the belief that addiction affects individuals physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Here's a simplified overview: 1. **Open-Minded Approach**: Utilizes plant medicines, including ayahuasca, within a harm reduction model that emphasizes informed choice, safety, and professional guidance. 2. **What It Is**: A journey focused on balancing and relieving spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional issues through a person-centered approach, treating the entire person. 3. **Why It Matters**: Holistic treatment is scientifically supported as the best approach to addiction recovery. It combines traditional Amazonian plant medicine healing within the Shipibo tradition with modern therapies for a comprehensive treatment model. 4. **Program Introduction**: Begins with a 7-day period to adapt to the new environment and decide on the most suitable recovery program, including preparation for ceremonies and detoxification processes. 5. **Holistic Care Components**: - **Physical Healing**: Addresses addiction's physical symptoms and overall health through yoga, fitness, outdoor activities, and a balanced diet. - **Emotional Healing**: Uses therapies and exercises to manage emotions effectively, crucial for coping with past trauma and emotional disorders. - **Spiritual Healing & Integration**: Revives spiritual connections through meditation, art, support groups, and mindfulness, distinguishing between spirituality and religiosity. - **Dual-Diagnosis Support**: Provides education and tools for those with co-occurring disorders, recognizing the interconnectedness of addiction with mental health issues. 6. **Long-Term Recovery Plan**: Assists in creating structured plans for integrating back into society post-treatment, with ongoing community and professional support to ensure long-term recovery. 7. **Community & Support**: Offers a nurturing environment supported by experienced staff and a recovery community, encouraging those with a history of substance use and ayahuasca experience to contribute to a collective healing journey. Permaculture Program in Iquitos, Peru

OUR ECOSYSTEM At Sacred Rebels Recovery, our permaculture programs incorporate regenerative agriculture with our recovery methodologies to enhance the efficacy of our programs and drive efforts to unify the health and wellbeing of those in our care with that of the earth. Permaculture is an approach to land management and environmental design that adopts arrangements observed in flourishing natural ecosystems. This philosophy can be applied to our approach to healing and recovery as well. When visitors arrive on our permaculture farm, they are greeted with the natural elements that are thriving in their holistic environments. They are invited to participate in our permaculture programs in Iquitos, Peru to experience working with the plants that both feed and heal our bodies. Just as we tend to the plants, we also tend to our own healing and the healing journey of our visitors. Our healing as humans, whether we are healing from trauma, every stress, chronic addiction, or all of the above, relies on having a stable and nourishing environment. One size fits all does not apply to our permaculture program, and the same goes to our approach to healing. In addition to the role of permaculture as a core tenet of our lifestyle and recovery philosophy, the plants grown on our land serve the larger community, bringing sustenance to those in need and allowing us to give back to the community we call home. THE CENTER Our community Beyond agriculture, our permaculture philosophy extends to the ecological engineering, sustainable architecture, and construction of our facilities. We partner with the community of Nihue Rao to establish food share programs & develop better access to fresh water through the construction of water towers in the neighboring village of Llanchama. We are employing local community members to be involved in the development and design of the project in order to create more accessibility to necessary food sources that will be available for future generations.

Healing Addiction with Plant Medicine & the 12 Step Program

Written by Johanna, a recent visitor of Nihue Rao Espiritual & Sacred Rebels Recovery in Iquitos Peru I just celebrated 22 months of continuous sobriety. For the majority of my adult life, I used alcohol and cannabis every day. I believed that these substances made my life manageable, and because I had a job and a roof over my head, I did not believe I had a problem. Even though I struggled with depression, anxiety, and irritability, I never attributed my problems to my drug and alcohol consumption. I felt that cannabis, in particular, was my medicine.

Permaculture, gardening and Addiction recovery. How gardening & permaculture support the recovery process

Anyone who has spent time gardening already knows how beneficial it is for your mental health. It’s fun, hard work (in a good way) while also being an amazing way to cope with stress. Gardening allows you to connect with nature while providing you with a quiet time to reflect or not have to think at all, a form of active meditation. Whether it’s raking leaves, planting seeds, or harvesting your previous hard work, gardening and being active outside working with plants is a great way to spend time in your recovery.

Ayahuasca, entheogens, & addiction recovery. My experience with psychedelics in recovery.

Disclaimer: The author of this blog does not encourage the use of psychedelics on one’s own without proper guidance and preparation for such an experience. Psychedelics are also not for everyone, there are many things to consider before exploring psychedelic recovery as an option or as an aid to your recovery process.
