Liminal Village 2022: Towards Oneness - Regenerative Storytelling for Racial Justice

There are multiple ways to address Racial Justice. Actually, about the same number of ways we have tried to avoid addressing it over the centuries, be it through education, science, technology, media, social movements, etc. In this conversation we will discuss how regenerative storytelling can contribute to a more racially just society. Which tools is the black movement in Portugal using to confront racial discrimination? How can we walk together towards the utopian “Oneness” in a conscious way? A talk by Paula Cardoso and Virgilio Varela in conversation with Carla Fernandes. BIO PAULA CARDOSO Founder of Afrolink, a digital platform promoting the representation and visibility of people of African descent across all spheres of life in Portugal. She created a market where black entrepreneurs can present their proposals and exchange experiences. She is also the author of Força Africana, a series of children’s books that advances the social inclusion of African and children of African descent growing up in Portugal by featuring characters that resemble them. She leads DeliberaEscola, a project which brings civic deliberation to Portuguese schools, while also serving as a mentor in the HeForShe’ Mentoring the Future program, created to address gender equality, diversity, and inclusion. Paula believes that representation and education are ways of attaining racial justice. His experience includes designing projects for communities and organisations such as the European Commission, the United Nations, and UNESCO across various European countries, as well as Brazil, Cape Verde and Mozambique. Examples are methodologies such as Dragon Dreaming - design and management of collaborative and sustainable projects, Participatory Rural Appraisal, Asset Based Community Development, Jogo Oásis-Instituto Elos, Open Space Technology, Design Thinking. Varela is a father of three children who are his source of inspiration and reminds him of his inner child that manifests itself through creativity and serendipity.
