I follow the ancient Greek approach: prepare yourself immaculately, journey to the underworld, deal with what comes of it. Preparation is the biggest part and it's generally overlooked. The ingredients make the meal, so don't expect more spices will fix anything.
As a therapist, most people come to me to fix things. That's basically a process of life integration, and that's normal and typical. Psychedelics offer the unique opportunity to prepare, and you should see that is as important and consequential as anything you could do afterwards.
Unfortunately, for those of us operating above ground, we cannot join you on the journey. I believe this is necessary and will someday be possible. I'm not talking about sitting with you, I'm talking about going with you. The best substitute I've found is "hypnodelics," which is the hypnotic exploration of your dream world.
This goes under the fanciful name of "Past Life Regression." This is risk-free, legal, and, if you can get off the ground, it's guaranteed to be life changing. I only recommend psychedelics for those people who cannot reach the edge of their consciousness voluntarilly. Doing it voluntarily and intentionally is more powerful. It's something you can take full responsibility for.
Psychedelics, even at best, are interventional. As many experienced ayahuasca travelers can attest, with enough experience you can get there by yourself. If you're depressed, anxious, frightened, or traumatized, then you may need help. Use as little help as possible. The more you can do yourself, the more you can bring your insights into your waking world.
