The Process

STEP

A magic mushroom ceremony or psychedelic session can differ depending on the facilitator and the setting, but here is a general description of how it might go: 1. Intake interview: Prior to the ceremony, an intake usually takes place between the participant(s) and the supervisor(s). During this conversation, information is exchanged about the intentions, background, experiences and any medical or psychological history of the participant(s). This helps the supervisor(s) to better tailor the session to the needs and wishes of the participant(s).

2. Fasting: It is recommended to fast for 5 hours prior to the ceremony. This is done to prepare the body and mind for the psychedelic experience and enhance its effects.

3. Screening: During the ceremony it is important that the safety of the participant(s) is guaranteed. A screening may therefore take place to identify any contraindications or risk factors that may affect the participant(s) during the session. This could, for example, be about medication use, mental health or recent traumatic experiences.

4. Session: The session begins in a comfortable and safe space. Participants may be asked to lie down or sit in a place that feels comfortable to them. Accompanying music and other environmental factors are used to create a relaxing and stimulating atmosphere. The effects of the psychedelics can manifest themselves during the session. This can range from visual and auditory hallucinations to changes in perception, emotions and thoughts. Facilitators are ready to support, guide and provide a safe environment for participants during the session.

5. Duration: The duration of a mushroom ceremony can vary, but usually lasts 4-6 hours. The effects of the psychedelics are usually strongest in the first few hours, followed by a gradual decrease in intensity. After the session there may be time for integration and reflection, where participants can discuss the experience, share insights and prepare for the return to everyday life.
